Our story

A Mother's Day gift that wouldn't stay a Mother's Day gift.

"Mom mentioned her humidity packs weren't really keeping things consistent. I figured I could build her something better. Then friends saw it and wanted one too."

Kristi Cart started as a single hand-built unit for one mom's wine fridge. Two months later, the third prototype was running in three different homes and we couldn't keep up with requests.

The cure problem isn't complicated, but every existing solution gets it half-right. Boveda packs are passive — they react slowly and dump out after a few cycles. Commercial countertop units cost a thousand dollars and only handle a pound at a time. Wine fridges hold temperature but don't manage humidity at all.

Kristi Cart bridges the gap. It slots into any wine fridge, reads real-time vapor pressure deficit, and cycles your fridge and humidifier to hold a target with precision down to ±0.05 kPa.

What's inside

Climate control that actually controls.

Real VPD control

Senses temperature and humidity 30× per minute. Computes vapor pressure deficit and cycles a humidifier + fan to hold your target precisely.

Wine fridge cycling

Pairs with a TP-Link Kasa smart plug to cycle your fridge on temperature, with 5-minute compressor protection so you don't kill the fridge.

📱

Phone dashboard

Plug it in, connect to its WiFi from your phone, pick your home network — done. Installs to your home screen like a native app. Live charts, recipe switching, manual override, all over your local network. No cloud account required.

Smart alerts + daily check-in

Discord, Slack, or any webhook notifies you when VPD drifts off target, the sensor disconnects, or the fridge plug goes offline. Plus a configurable daily summary so you know everything's still happy without opening the app.

Scheduled recipes

Save profiles for each cultivar. Schedule a DRY → CURE transition for any future date. Cartridge handles the switch automatically.

🔧

Repairable + open

Modular split lid for media swaps. Replaceable parts. Firmware updates by dropping a file on the dashboard — no developer tools required. No subscription, no walled garden, no planned obsolescence.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

Do I need a wine fridge to use Kristi Cart?
Yes — Kristi Cart manages humidity and air circulation but relies on a wine fridge (or any thermoelectric cooler) for the temperature side. We recommend thermoelectric over compressor models for stability.
What size wine fridge?
The cartridge fits comfortably in any 6-bottle or larger wine fridge with shelves removed. We've tested in NewAir 12-bottle, Whynter 18-bottle, and an Ivation 24-bottle to date.
When can I buy one?
First small batch ships to waitlist signups in the coming weeks. Larger batches as we scale up printing capacity. Join the waitlist to be first in line.
Does it work for non-cannabis uses?
Yes. The same hardware works for cigar humidification, charcuterie curing, mushroom fruiting, even high-end seed storage. Different default recipes — same chassis.
Is it open source?
The firmware is owner-flashable — you can read the code, modify it, contribute back. The cartridge body is 3D-printable. Hardware design will be published once the first batches ship.
